Climate change is in the news a lot. Millions of people are being affected by flooding, adverse weather conditions and rising sea-levels. Young people across the world have a huge responsibility to make a difference and make positive steps to tackle this issue.
Some of the problem is that people do not know why they should make changes and are sometimes confused about what to do.
Take action
The simplest actions that you can take actually save money as well as the planet.
Electricity, heating, transport, water and other items all cost money whether you are the one paying for them or not.
As a starting point calculate your carbon footprint. This shows what impact your lifestyle has on the planet.
- BP has a good one that allows you to select which country you live in
- The UK Government also has a fun and interactive calculator
- Once you have seen the size of your carbon footprint have a look at Global Cool to see some of the things you can do to reduce your impact on the planet
Here are some easy things to do to reduce your carbon footprint:
- Walk or bike instead of taking the bus or train
- Turn off lights when they are not needed at home and school or college
- Recycle your waste at home and school
- Plant a tree
- Turn off and unplug electronic devices when they are not in use
- Wear a woolly jumper instead of turning the heat up (and take it off before using air conditioning!)
- Use less hot water
There are a lot of other ways you can help. Start with these and if you need more inspiration take a look at some of the links on this page. Let us know what you decide to do by leaving a message for the team!
Get involved
2041 wants to make a difference, and we can only do that with your help.
You can help us by:
- Checking the website
- Learn more about climate change and renewable energy from the E-Base team as they broadcast daily. See latest post
- Being in touch
- Send any comments, questions or messages that you may have to Robert and the E-Base tem. Add a comment to an individual post, or add to our message wall.
- Spreading the word
- 2041 has hosted the video and images from the E-Base Goes Live project on a number of social networking and media sharing sites to make it easier for you to share with your friends. Or, of course, you can tell them when you see them!
Project
Put into practice the lessons you learn from the E-Base broadcasts by designing your own E-Base. The project leads you through an investigation of your renewable energy and the principles of sustainable building as well as making you think about what how your E-Base will be used.
You can do this project on your own or as part of studies in geography, citizenship, education for sustainable development or environmental studies.
