Since 2003 he has worked at Npower’s Thornaby call centre, providing help and advice to some of Npower’s six million residential customers.

Before joining Npower Russell tried his hand at many different jobs from tending bar to renovating houses, and spends most of his free time building fences and other DIY projects.

After a successful expedition last year, Russell is looking forward to working even harder and seeing the culmination of all the team has been working towards. Russell says: “Since being invited back to participate in this amazing expedition I haven’t been able to sleep! I can’t wait to get the job done.”

Justin Hyde

Justin Hyde

Justin is 29 years old and lives with his wonderful girlfriend, Jacqui, and their 2 cats in Worcester. He has spent almost his entire career working in the energy industry and currently works in Npower’s Commercial Development team. The best thing he finds about working in Npower is the great people that he gets to meet every day and hopes that the business will continue to lead in both the environmental solutions area, as well as providing people with opportunities to shine in their working life.

“I personally still can’t believe that I have been given the opportunity to join this expedition. I feel so privileged to experience such a place and can’t sleep with excitement. This proves to anyone that wants to make a difference in this world and wants to challenge themselves, that they can do anything they put their mind to.”

Justin has a natural flair for home improvement/DIY and has spent the past year renovating and updating his house, as well as making it more energy efficient. He developed his drive to get involved in environmental work from his father, who travelled the Arctic Circle in his youth. In Justin’s spare time, he is a keen cyclist and likes to cycle around the beautiful local countryside. He is very conscious of his environmental impact on a day to day basic and cycles to work at every available opportunity to both reduce his carbon footprint and keep healthy at the same time.

He will play an instrumental role in installing the wind turbines that will allow for the successful completion of the ‘E-Base Live 365′ project.

Additionally, Stuart is interested in experiencing the Antarctic environment and learning more about leadership. In his spare time back home in the UK, Stuart is an avid outdoorsman and enjoys mountain biking, swimming, camping, and cooking.

He is excited to have the opportunity to continue his work at the E-Base.

In his free time, Jake loves riding bikes, taking his dog for walks, and hanging out with friends. He also likes to hike, ski, fish, kayak, fly, and sail when he isn’t in the Antarctic.

Normally found training teachers, advising expeditions or playing with technology, he is delighted to be out in the field after a long break.

Last year, Digital Explorer supported the E-Base Goes Live and IAE 2008 Expeditions remotely from London. Jamie is keeping his fingers crossed that the satellites will align and make his life easy.

Like many people, he’s conscious of making small changes in his daily behavior to consume less and be more energy efficient, and is hoping to be inspired through this experience to learn more about global climate change.

Jonny plays sports in his spare time, and has more than a passing interest in Natural history and ornithology, making him particularly anxious to see the unique Antarctic wildlife. He brings a tireless work ethic and love of hot sauce to the Expedition mix.
